Today my coaches gave me my first Letter of Interest from a college. From Arkansas Gymnastics – University of Arkansas! Go Razorbacks! Currently ranked #10. I tried to work hard during the College clinic and showcase, I am happy it paid off. Hopefully they will still like me in 5 or 6 years! :).
This trip to Las Vegas for the level 10 High tech Camp/College showcase was the first time I flew without my mom or dad. (My mom had to coach a meet on Sunday and my dad had to work on Saturday) My coach Annie and I left really early Saturday morning, landed, hit the strip and I won a Minion playing the ring toss. We watched the college showcase for a little bit, then went to see a Cirque de Soleil show – Ka. On Sunday we woke up, ate breakfast and went to the gym for the camp. There were alot of different college coaches helping at each event and walking around watching. I did pretty good on my events but didn’t have my best bar day 😦 But I did end with catching a couple of each releases on bars to end the bar rotation. Vault and floor were pretty good and I did felt really good on Beam. After the clinic we went to a buffet with really good dessert and then ended coming home really late! It was fun!
This Halloween I was a Peacock and my sister was Little Red Riding Hood! We spent our Halloween with my Nonni, Papa, their dog Bernie, My Grandpa, My Uncle Mike and Aunt Sam, Lilly, Jr, My mom and dad, Belinda, Cierra, Kevin, Annie, Jeff, Reese and Reagan.
It was the first Halloween in a long time that our favorite house didn’t give out large bags of full size candy bars! We were so sad 😦 We ended up with alot of candy anyways. 🙂
On Thursday Dream Xtreme Team members skipped practice and went to the Cool Patch Pumpkin Patch! We took pictures, went on a hay ride, played in the hay house, went through the mini maze and hung out in the corn bath. Then picked pumpkins. It was really fun. After all the coaches and their kids went out to dinner at Chilis. Then on Saturday, my mom and Mandie threw a Bunco Bash fundraiser. Adults and kids were separated and played Bunco. It was fun. My family didn’t win any prizes. Bunco prizes or raffle prizes but we still had a lot of fun.
I just finished the 3 day Elite & Tops gymnastics camp at SCEGA, in Temecula. It was fun! I met some new friends and got to work with some of the National Training Staff coaches. I got some new skills and combos on bars. Some good drills and tips for the other events. Mckayla Maroney’s coach Arthur worked with me abunch on bars and Tami Biggs a bunch on beam. I won a contest with Doc Allison for mental strength and got a shirt. :). It was pretty fun! Were on our way back to Newport Beach for some beach fun. Only 9 days left until we start school. 7th grade here I come!
The week before my last meet (Delta Classic Mar 9th) I was doing a swing half and kinda missed the low bar but my thumb didn’t and I dislocated my thumb. My coach popped it in a few times but it really hurt. She thought it might be broken but my meet was that weekend and I really wanted to compete. Then on that weds. I had a bad sore throat, I couldnt swallow and thought it might be strep so we went to the doctor. I had a throat infection, my doctor offered to take an xray of my thumb, she said I definatly dislocated it, it could be broken but we had to bring my Nonni to the doctor right after, so I didn’t get an xray right then. She gave me a splint to wear and said even if it was broken, I would just get a splint anyway. That weekend, I competed at the Delta Classic, I placed 3rd on vault with 9.225, 4th on bars with an 8.6, 4th on beam with a 9.2 and 4th on floor with a 9.025. My all-around was 36.050 for 4th place. Right after that meet my thumb was still hurting and I was practicing my bar routine, I was gianting towards the low bar and hit my foot on the bar, It hurt so bad I came down and rolled around for a good 5 minutes. It was bruised instantly. I tried to finish practice but it hurt too bad. I took the next day off and then went to the doctor to find out if I broke my foot, while I was there I had an xray on my thumb too. It turns out that my foot was badly bruised but not broken but my thumb was definitely broken. The doctor said it looked like it started to mend already so I just kept wearing the splint. She told me to wear it for another 3-4 weeks. I just conditioned for thursday and Friday since my foot hurt so bad and then went back to full practice Monday.
At the State meet, I finally stuck all 4 events. I had my highest all around score for my level 10 season. It was pretty cool because people from my team came to watch. 🙂 I started on bars which is my weakest event right now, and its not because my thumb is broken. I got a 8.9. Then went to beam and did a solid routine with only a wiggle on my side aerial and a step on my dismount. 9.45, Floor was next and I felt like I did my best routine I could do that day. 9.225. Then was vault. My first vault I competed was a tuck full and I landed pretty good. Annie asked me what vault I wanted to do for my next vault. I wanted to do a layout full. So I did. It was my best vault of the season. 9.55. In fact that was my best vault score in my whole gymnastics life. I was pretty happy. My all-around score was a 37.125 – I finally got a 37 this season. I also qualified to regionals!
Vault 4th place
Beam – STATE BEAM CHAMPION (second year in a row)
AA – 4th place
I was happy. Now its onto regionals. From regionals you can qualify to Nationals but you have to be the top 7 in your division. I am going to have to have my best meet ever to make it.
Below are my floor and beam routines. My mom thought she video’d the bars but she cut it off and they couldn’t get the vault, there were too many people in the way blocking vault and my landing.
The Sunday after my first meet, we went to the Palace Hotel in San Francisco to celebrate Nana Nina’s Birthday. My mom said it was a fancy hotel so we all dressed up. When we got there, we walked in and the hotel was so big and really pretty. It looked like a palace inside with all the decorations. The brunch was in this big room and the food started on one side and just kept going around the room. There was everything you could imagine to eat for breakfast. All kinds of fruits, cheeses, danishes, meats, omelets, pancakes, crepes to order, salmon, seafood – so many desserts. You name it and they had it. It was soooooo good but my parents said it was soooo expensive. This place is now in a tie for first for my favorite restuarant. My other favorite is the Melting Pot. Both places cost alot of money but they are so good. I definitely recommend the Palace hotel for any celebration.
We had a small New years eve party this year. Kylie came and she brought me a gift – a banana holder 🙂 Some of you may think it’s a strange gift but I’ve always wanted one for some reason and she knew it. Thanks Kylie, I love it. Also, Cierra (one of Ari’s best friends) and her family came and Hannah (One of Ari’s best friends) and her family came. Shaun our cousin came and Tina and Cierra came too. My Nonni and Papa came but only stayed for a little bit because she wasn’t feeling very good. We played the “Guess who I am game” and 4 on a couch (that is a fun game) and Pictionary. We had a little excitement go on before pictionary – just random stuff happened. Then during Pictionary Tina kept saying Timeout Timeout – What is the category??? It was always on the all play squares and there was never a category. At midnight we did the count down, had apple cider then ran outside because our neighbor always does these huge loud fireworks. They are sooooo loud and set off all the car alarms in the neighborhood but all the neighbors are out waiting for them to go off so no one complains and it’s kind of a tradition. Then Happy New Years!!! I’m excited for this year and hope it is really great.
Christmas is my favorite time of year! I like the gifts and gift giving but I also like that we decorate our house. I love the lights and the Tree and all the decorations! We have a fake tree (that replaced our old fake tree) straight from Tahoe. It’s about 10 or 12 feet high, flocked and with lights. We found it at a Tahoe thrift boutique out of the box but when we brought it home, all of us were stuck in a snow storm (including the tree) that took us about 10 hours to get home from. It was a crazy day, our cousins were with us too and parts of the roads were closed and you couldn’t see anything or move on the freeway at all. Definitely a day I will always remember. Our December started off with my school party, then we had a Dream Xtreme Slumber Party. At the party all the Optionals did a slipper gift exchange and I loved the slippers that I got from Aalyiah. Kylie got slippers for me also (and a bunch of other stuff too) and I was happy because I couldn’t decide which pair I liked more than I ended up getting both. We played a bunch of Christmas games and ended up going to sleep earlier than usual for our sleep overs – I think about 3:45-4. It was on the night that the end of the world was supposed to happened and we were all talking about it and right around 3:20am Lightning happened and Thunder shook the gym. It was scary. People were screaming and crying and scared. The storm went on for about an hour but I fell asleep in the middle of it.
A couple of days after was christmas eve. This year my grandpa got us tickets to see a magic show at the aquarium in San Francisco. While we were at the show I was picked to be a helper during the show. It was fun, I had to pick an animal cookie out of the back and the magician drew what I picked before we told him. The show was really fun! Then we went to Nannies house, which is my dad’s grandma and my great grandma. This was going to be a hard Christmas for everyone because it is the first Christmas without Papa. (My greatgrandpa not Papa Sean) Then we got home around 11:30pm in time to put treats out for Santa.
Christmas Morning came and my Nonni and Papa came over around 7am, then around 10 my dads side of the family came over for breakfast and gift exchanging and then we went to my Great Nonni’s house in San Anselmo. It was fun to see everyone and we even have friends that come to visit from next door to my nonni. Frankie and Mia, Their about the same age as Ari and I so they are fun to hang out with. We went home late and then woke up early the next morning to go visit my Grandpa and Nana Nina for My Grandpa’s birthday which is Dec. 26th. We also exchanged our Christmas gifts and got to visit with my Uncle Michael, Aunt Sam and Little Jr. Everytime we get together we all sing my grandpas favorite song – Awuni kuni cha – we are not native american but its a tradition we do at least once when every one is together. Strange but fun. We had a really fun day.
On last Saturday, my gymnastics team went to Wreathes Accross America at the Dixon Cemetary. We got there about 8:30 and there was a long line of cars headed to the cemetary. We met up with our teammates and tried to hear the ceremony that was put on. Right after the ceremony, we walked over to an area that had a bunch of boxes and started unpacking the wreathes that were suppose to go onto each grave. After all family members laid wreathes, then all the public could lay wreathes on the rest of the graves. It was really pretty after all the wreathes were laid. I think we heard that 11,000 wreathes were laid at the cemetary that day. It was a nice thing to do for all the veterens that served for our country. We never did it before but I hope we do it again next year.
A couple of Saturdays ago, was some of the Optional teams first meet. There was suppose to be 6 girls going and competing in level 7 but right before the meet, Regan hurt her foot and couldn’t compete and Matea hurt her hand and couldn’t compete. Both are better and can compete at the next meet. That left us with Kylie, Sameerah, Gigi and Lynse. Our whole team of Optionals went to go watch. Everyone did really good! Mostly all scores were over 9s. Great job teammates! Lynse competed and She got first place all around out of her session. The top 7 of 2 sessions compete at the Nationals judges cup. After the meet the whole team went and ate at the spaghetti factory and Lynse waited to find out if she was going to make it to compete at the National Judges cup. Turns out She had the highest score of both sessions and is going to Florida to compete for our state. Whoo hoo Lynse!
I can’t remember when all of us first met but it was after my level 4 season. I knew Kylie for awhile but Anna and Tatiana came after. We always did sooo many things together and we all made the best of friends. This year after regionals, and into our summer practice, Tatiana decided to quit 😦 At first we thought she was just talking about it but after we had a week off during summer, she didn’t come back. We couldn’t believe it. Gym was not going to be the same without her and we were all very sad. Then a couple of months go by and Anna says she might have to move 😦 first it was going to happen in september, then October, then for sure in November. And it did. Anna is moving. She is only moving to Dixon but her parents just aren’t able to get her to our gym anymore. NOOO ANNNAAA Don’t go! All of us tried to figure out ways to make it work for her but it really happened. She moved to another gym right after Thanksgiving. It was another sad day for Kylie and I. We will miss you Anna and Tot! I know we see you sometimes but it is not the same… Come back! This page will go to our memories of them and all of our fun times.
Also, before Anna left our coach Annie made this cool video of some of the skills we got over the summer. It’s pretty cool to watch.
I love Halloween! I pretty much love every holiday. This year I was a Ladybug and my sister was a bee! We have alot of people trick or treat with us. Belinda and her family, My aunt Zeba and her family, My uncle Michael and his family and My Nana Nina and Grandpa come too. We pretty much have the best neighborhood, down the steet from us kinda by my school, there is a house that gives out a brown bag full of candy bars. 10 or 11 full size candy bars. Ari actually goes to school with the boy that lives there. We always go to that house first. Its a tradition.! Of course this year the weather was soooo nice but then on Halloween it rained. 😦 It didn’t stop us though. Halloween one ween it will be for years to come. We watched the show and they never heard of halloween so when it was getting explained some how it came thru as Halloween one ween. For weeks my mom, my sister and I couldn’t stop saying it! Our holiday has now been renamed!
Olympic Trials! Whoo hooo I was soo excited. This was going to be my 2nd olympic trials I was going too. I went with my mom and my team in 2008 and that was pretty cool but going this year was going to be even better.
I was really excited because right before Olympic trials was a mini vacation to Lake Almanor, We went with my moms friends last year and it was really fun so I knew it was going to be fun this year and Kylie was going with me too. Right before we went, my Nonnie was having a hard time breathing all the time and was couching all the time. She was going with us too. A couple days before she coughed so hard she thought she broke a rib (turns out she did). We had alot of fun although it was summer, for some reason it snowed up there! We weren’t really ready for that. My nonnie (my grandma) was in pain the whole time we were there and she didn’t get to do very much with us. I think we got back from our vacation and then had about a week and then we were going to be heading to San Jose for the Olympic trials. We bought the 4 day tickets because my mom was going to be there every day going to congress with Dream Xtreme. A couple days after we got back my nonnie found out some horrible news. She found out from the xray from her ribs and lungs that she had lung cancer. 😦 And a broken rib. This was horrible. I was so excited about the trials and so sad that my grandma was sick. She actually came with us to the trials because she had to watch my sister and I while my mom was at the classes. Also, Jeff, Camille and Helen all came. We all piled into my moms van to get places, I think there were like 11 of us. It was fun.
On the first night of the mens trials, we sat right behind Sam Mikulaks mom and girlfriend. We got a picture with her, shes a well known gymnast too. We also met Samantha Pezsek while we were walking to our seats. Pic with her too! And either later that night or the next day, Kylie and her cousin Bailey and my mom and Camille all went to subway and John Orozco was there buying a sandwich with his mom and dad. Yep, we were pretty cool. The next night during the womens competition we sat right in from of Jordyn Weibers whole family! We have pictures with her mom too! Next day mens competitition, Sams fans moved and the place was more crowded. Then on womens finals night, John Orozco stood in our stairway and watched the competition for along time!. We were also on the news and on TV the whole time because our team wore these flourescent yellow shirts and you couldn’t miss us. It was so much fun and so amazing! Jen and Kylie sat by bars for alittle bit and sat by Gabys mom. Gaby beat Jordyn by a tenth! So Jordyns family had to wait to see if she made the team. Her whole family was soooo nice and all of us were hoping sooo. It was a really exciting meet. I am sooooo happy we got to go. Thanks mom and dad.
Every year on Memorial Day weekend, our gym is apart of the Fiesta Days Parade. This year Im not sure what the theme was but it worked out really good for us because we made our float all about the Olympics! We all got cool London Leos and walked and danced in the Parade. Then we did 2 performances at one of the stages in the park. It was hot!!!
